If you have ever tried to adjust the choke on your beetle you may have accidentally touched the bolts on the top of your alternator and created a spark when you grounded that circuit.
Now I see they actually make a part for this, available on ebay. But I’d have to remove the connectors and I’m not sure that will really fix it. So with that I perused the aisles of the local parts store and tried two different rubber boots.
First up with have teh Dorman 46017. Which was $15, and I probably should have skipped it. But let’s give it a try.
Not wanting to remove the ring connectors. I cut the boot and planned on zip tying it.
This didn’t look good, but it worked. So another trip to the parts store.
the Doorman 47028 was a bit bigger, and cheaper at $6.
Generally it worked better. It does the job and looks sort of better. The bolt t the top makes it a bit higher and the look goes down. Anyhow it’ll solve the problem until I buy the official part and figure out why I have two wires coming off that post and should only have one…
