A whole new thing has started in the last two weeks, the beetle just died on me. I went down my driveway maybe 1000\u2019 and it stalled. To troubleshoot I took the fuel line off the outlet line from the mechanical fuel pump. I turned on the electric pump and no fuel came out. Huh? I took the inlet side off and gas came out using the electric pump. To get home I bypassed the mechanical pump and was able to get home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was my hack to get home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don\u2019t think there is a problem with the pump, but I emailed the ever helpful Bill @ Sparxwerks<\/a> who said there was no way my pump is the problem. I reconnected the hoses and moved on to replace the in tank filter with one from Wolfsburg West<\/a>. He suggested I check out the in tank filter. I had already ordered that part, so let\u2019s get to it.

I started by pulling up the tank, which at this point I am an expert at having done it a dozen times, then removed the old outlet and filter using a 22mm wrench. I placed a pan under the tank to catch any gas. But with maybe 1\/3rd of a tank of gas very little leaked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The old one had disintegrated and was nasty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I cleaned up the outlet as best I could, and put the new one on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think I\u2019ll replace the tank next, that old filter is probably floating around in there.
