I have not been super happy with how I have carried my tools in the baja. On the plus side I haven’t had to use them while out lately. I think we all know the moment you take them out you will break down. Not to mention I am in a pretty wild part of the country, getting stuck is not something I want to do. Since the beginning I have been carrying my tools in a small Toyo box, but I wanted something better<\/a>. I happen to have a great aluminum welding company in town – https:\/\/www.eddylinewelding.com\/<\/a> that is run by some really cool people. I had them build me a 12″x35″x8″ box for the back of the baja. It is powder coated matte black and to me looks like it was meant to be there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That unused space between the wheel wells behind the back seat is where I wanted to mount a box. In a stock beetle there is already some storage. Below is the box before I installed it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is no joke, this is built to the standards of a white water cargo box, so it is water tight. Just look at these latches and the seal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now to attach it I drilled 4 holes and used class 10.9 hardware. As an aside I was tired of running to the hardware store to spend $4 on a single bolt. Well Belmetric<\/a> has everything you could need, and now I don’t have to drive to town for hardware. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, I didn’t drill the holes, I have my friend Alex who owns the shop drill the holes using a template I made. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then I measured it and drilled a succession of bigger holes in the back. I used M10 class 10.9 hardware with fender washers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, if you have ever wanted to justify installing rock lights, it makes late evening under-the-car work much brighter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I did line the bottom with some toolbox drawer liner and then fill it with everything. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am super stoked on it. It makes no noise, seals up solid and just looks right. Plus if tools are out of sight, they are out of mind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
