Why not have some cheap insurance?  I picked up a Vintage AirCooled Parts Fire Extinguisher mount to in the baja. On my bug there is thick steel used for the seat mounts. I went for the horizontal mount thinking the seat frame would be a good spot for the extinguisher. Please ignore the surface rust. However mounted on this metal post it rocked on the strap.
