Way back when I first got this beetle I was trying to diagnose the lack of charging (spoiler alert: I needed a new alternator), which had me replace all the fuses, during this, I have to admit, I found the porcelain fuses very finicky and fragile. Another bonus is blade style fuses are in every gas station and grocery store. With enough googling I found the Torque Resto Parts 61-67 Beetle Fuse Box. <\/a> The parts arrived and I did nothing with them for months. But I had some time and installed it in 20 minutes. Ok, on the second attempt 20 minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first step was to label all the wires so I could, unlike Humpty Dumpty, put it back together again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next I began to unhook the wires, where I ran into a problem. On fuse #8 I have 3 wires on each side. This has only two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I reached out to Torque Resto via email, they never wrote back. But a discussion on the Samba forum recommended using piggyback connectors. Using two of these I was able to install the new fuse box. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And looking at the old one, it had seen better days. There was some melting !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new one fit in fine, I also figured I would take this time to label the wires permanently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the stock plastic cover fits, which is a nice bonus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
