Leaky Oil Sump Plate

A few weeks back I changed my oil, after which it developed a leak. Assuming I might have not tightened everything enough I checked it all with a torque wrench, but no improvement. As usual I searched on The Samba which yielded the answer; the sump gets warped by being over tightened throughout the years.

One suggestion was to use Fel-Pro filter gaskets as they are thicker and more forgiving of less than smooth surfaces.

The other method suggested was to remove the old plate and flatten it out, but I opted for a new Empi chrome plate with magnetic plug and rubber washer.

No leaks in a few days, I’ll call it fixed.
