Yesterday I decided to add quick release pins to my driver seat like I have on the passenger seat. Now, ever since installing these PRP seats they have been back a bit too far for my liking. The baja has some crazy overbuilt 1/4″ steel seat mounts, that I haven’t replaced, which are not using the factory brackets and have some big ol’ holes in the pan to mount them. As I went to put the quick release pins in, they hit the seat rails because I have the driver seat jammed all the forward. I took the seat off to look if there was an option. And there was not for the quick releases, but there was one for my fit issue! I noticed that the stock location uses lag bolts, but if i used regular grade 8 bolts with serrated nuts and added a new hole I could move it 1″ forward.
I would have to drill a pretty precise hole and also on the right side notch the cutout to make room for the seat adjuster. To do this I 3D printed a jig that slipped into the square lag hole and lined up my new hole. Also a little shape to copy the existing nice rounded shape of the existing notch.
I had to touch them up, which on a 100° day in the desert didn’t take long to dry.
Fits perfect.
