My VW Zen Guru suggested I put header wrap on my bug to keep the heat away from my fuel pump. He has it on his, who am I to argue?
I purchased three four roles of Cool IT Thermo Tec insulation from NAPA (BALKAMP 735-6670) to complete the job. It is fiberglass so put on long sleeves and gloves before you start. Use rubber gloves because the fiberglass will work its way into your gloves. After looking around I see brands like Moroso have non fiberglass based wrap, so if I do this again some day, I’m going that route. But this went on really easily.
I spent years working in bike shops wrapping road bike handlebars, so this was like old times.
I secured the end with stainless steel wire, but I see now they actually make stainless zip tie like things. I might move to those. I’ll report back on how it works soon.
