3D Printed DMOS Shovel Mount

Here in Moab we have a cool used gear shop called Moab Gear Trader, well one day I walked in and they had a brand new mini DMOS shovel, and since the baja is kind of mini, why not get it? A shovel is going to get dirty and gross so I the obvious place to mount the shovel is on my roof basket. Last year at Easter Jeep Safari I had picked up a Quick Fist mount, which looked like it would solve half the problem.

To avoid wasting filament first I printed some very small test pieces to make sure it would fit correctly on the basket rails. Again I planned on using Rivnuts/Nutzerts to secure the hardware.

Looks good, right?4

But hubris got too me. The DMOS shovel on paper should work in the Quick Fist. Unfortunately the shovel handle is too thin. Luckily they make a Quick Fist Mini, with a 25 lbs work weight and a smaller clamping diameter.

You can see the difference in the sizes of the mini and original Quick Fist above.

One they arrived in the post all I had to was print new top pieces. I did print them 100% fill so they are heavy and hopefully not going to break.

They fit perfectly on the roof basket and it will keep the shovel out of the inside after I dig myself out of a sandy spot.
