Installing Quake LED Rock Lights on the Baja Bug

I have 4 Baja Designs LED Rock Lights on the baja bug, two on each axle. But they are not the brightest, admittedly Baja Designs says use 8, but I ignored that advice and now we see how that turned out. Not to take anything away from them, they are nicely made and easy to install. I was wandering the vendor expo at Easter Jeep Safari this year and the Quake LED truck had a 20% off sale on rock lights. Well, who can resist 4 LEDS for the price of one Baja Design light? Not me.

Cool features are the screw on connectors and the included 1 to 4 pig tail. The light does have a annoying exit angle of the cable on the back, making mounting a bit annoying. I honestly don’t know how the rubber tubing mount even works. I used it for the baja rear bumper, but I think I am just smooshing the cable.

The pan has two bolt holes I was not using that lined right up with where I wanted the LEDs to shine.

The mount was printed 100% fill and I used a nutzert so I wouldn’t have to hold a nut and bolt in place while under the car.

You can see a bit more in this video.

One person asked, I am using a Bambu Labs A1 printer and PETG-HF filament.

I mounted a LED on each side of the rear bumper cage high up under the fenders. This pic shows me testing them using a little bench top power supply.

After I had those in place and the two others bolted in I moved on to running cables, which honestly took the most amount of time. I ended up running them through the unused heater channel.

The pipe end cap is rubber and seals tightly around the cables to keep dust out. The sPod makes it easy to add new wires. I printed that grommet on the right, because I did not have one on hand the right size, some times you have to improvise!

The only downside of 13′ long cables with nice screw on connectors, I did not want to cut them, so for now they are coiled up under the sPod, but I might cut them to length, one day.

And how do they work? Damn they are bright.
