Gas Leak

My beetle has been smelling like gas for a long time. I replaced a leaky sending unit, new gas caps, new seals all with mixed results. The fuel sender was leaking, so that helped, but the gas odor persisted, even getting worse. This morning I noticed a puddle in front of the Baja and spotted gas on the area where the beam mounts. I jacked up the Baja, put it on jack stands and removed the driver front wheel.

It was obviously leaking from the fuel line where the hose connects to the metal line into the tunnel. I trimmed off the end of the fuel line and put on a new hose clamp. The problem is solved for now.

I torqued the lug nuts to 75 ft/lbs.

This was a smelly messy job. Which is making me rethink my plan of adding in a backup electric fuel pump.
