300 Mile Oil Change

After having my motor rebuilt it has been running great and cool, however I read somewhere that you should change the oil on a fresh rebuild after 300 miles. In the past I used straight 30W Valvoline with a can of MOA. But the builders used 20W-50 VR1, so that is what I used.

Also note the Wix 51515R racing filter! The racing filter has very little filtering and better throughput of oil per minute. I am not racing right now, or you know ever. But for the winter I put in a NAPA Gold 1515 non-racing filter. I don’t know, really no good reason except it might make it run slightly hotter with better filtration? I’ll try it for a bit.

Start by draining the oil plug, which is a 21mm socket.

Take your time and let all the oil drain, then put a new crush washer on the plug and tighten to 25 ft/lbs.

Since I have that remote filter I drained the oil into a container to recycle and then moved the pan over to the filter.

To remove this racing filter I tried one of these new fangled sockets, it did not fit. So I used a strap wrench.

Here is the regular Napa Gold 1515 (Wix made) filter in place. 1/2 a turn past hand tight using no tools. It does however fit that oil filter socket, for when I change it out.

I’ll let you know how the cooling and oil pressure works with this non racing filter.
