Leaky Oil Pump Fix

The cover on my oil pump has been leaking since I got it back from the engine rebuild, but recently it got worse. The internet tells me it could be from a warped cover plate. Well, the only thing to do is get to it. Which means:

  • Drain the oil
  • Loosen the pulley
  • Remove the AN fitting
  • Remove the plate
  • Clean the surface
  • New gasket
  • New plate
  • Put the AN fitting back on
  • Might as well change the oil filter
  • Might as well clean the screen
  • New oil
  • Test

I took a minute to swap out the cover to a MST billet cover. It seemed burly. No magnetic drain plug, so I will swap that in next time.

I also replaced the screen, because the old one was a bit beat up.

Now on to the real problem.

The CB Full Flow Oil Pump Cover plate, which has been leaking, I think from the nuts or maybe where the pump mates to the case? I thought I could remove the cover without remove the pulley, but I had to loosen that up. First up, remove the AN fitting. I bought the fancy Jegs aluminum wrenches.

The pump had lots of RTV on it, which the Bentley and Muir manuals both say to just install it dry. I scraped it all off and put in a new gasket and the new cover. But I also swapped to new oil pump nuts from JBugs that were way more substantial than what was on there.

The other nuts used a washer and then a sealed nut, I think oil was coming out from the washer area.

I put on a new filter while at it, and I switched back to the Wix 51515r , r=racing, since that seems to be what everyone uses. And apparently I change my oil every 200 miles now.

No leaks after running to get my mail. We’ll see… I have a feeling the AN fitting might be leaking next.
